Saturday football

Nothing, but nothing, that happens today can eclipse the joy of last night’s result.

Now then, there are a few things that still have to be sorted out at the foot of the table.

MAN CITY vs CRYSTAL PALACE (1230 ko)
Large portly Samuel’s miracle isn’t quite in the bag just yet, but if they avoid defeat and Swansea lose in the late game Crystal Palace will be mathematically safe. And who’d have thought that? Man City, meanwhile, have a chance to leapfrog Liverpool into third spot, but they’ll have to do that without Ageurro, Silva and Stones. Shouldn’t be too much of a problem, should it? Home win.

BOURNEMOUTH vs STOKE
There really is nothing to play for here, apart from pride and a possible top-half finish. The Cherries have successfully negotiated second season syndrome and will look to finish strongly. Stoke will hope to arrest an alarming slide in form and fortune. Draw.

BURNLEY vs WEST BROM
As Bournemouth emerge from their second season in the top flight, Burnley are about to enter it. There shouldn’t be too much of a problem negotiating a West Brom team that seems to have spent recent weeks soaking up the Mediterranean sun. Home win.

HULL vs SUNDERLAND
At last Sunderland have been put out of their misery. For Hull, the sweating continues although survival is firmly in their own hands. If they do survive, it will represent a feat no less impressive than what BFS has achieved at Selhurst Park. The Tigers must beware the wounded black cats. Home win.

LEICESTER vs WATFORD
Are you going to bother to read this? Am I going to bother two write it? Draw.

SWANSEA vs EVERTON (1730 ko)
It’s not looking good for the Swans and by the time they kick off in today’s late game, things may be looking a whole lot worse for the home side. But whatever happens at Hull, Swansea must win to keep the pressure on, to keep hope flickering, however faintly. Everton have secured seventh spot and any complacency arising from that knowledge will be the sole succour for the Swans. Draw.

When you have a manager at this level today boasting that they would love a 0-0 it's almost shocking and shows a complete lack of awareness about the modern game and the supporters. Clubs will always employ people like BFS and Pulis because they keep you up, but I'm hoping and suspect that these 2 are the last of that generation.

In a way I was disappointed he fucked up his England chance (as amusing as it was) as he finally would have had the chance to show what he could do with better players and resources.
They should stay up so let's see what they do next season as he has had & will have decent money to spend.

Not sure I agree with that, Sven. I think he's found a formula for his coaching that has proved itself, has demonstrated success in a defensive sense at least. I think he sees his challenge as applying that formula to whatever team he finds himself in charge of. There must be some kind of a thrill in that.

Said towards the end of his time with us that my abiding impression of Allardyce is that he doesn't actually like football that much.
He likes the rewards and knocking back a celebratory pint of wine but he doesn't have any passion for the game and entertaining football.
Have nothing against Palace but would love to see Hull beat them next week just to see the media reaction as Mr Guaranteed Staying Up hovers over the drop.

I saw an interview yesterday with Allardyce, from the week. He said he'd 'love a 0-0' (at Man City) The interviewer seemed to be caught off guard a little that a manager in today's game would still come out with something like that. but he mustered 'would you take a 5-5 too?' You can imagine the bewildered look on Allardyce's fat face, to which he eventually replied 'you know I love a clean sheet'

Fucking 2017 with people paying through the nose to be entertained at football and this fucking fat, selfish, fraud cunt is still coming out with shit like this. Cunt has no place at the top level in today's game.

For Palace to go down, they have to lose both of their remaining games. And Swansea would have to at least win one and draw one from their remaining two games (Sunderland (a) and West Brom (h)), and Hull would have to win both their remaining games, which are Palace (a) and spur (h). Have I got that right?
